Men trade more than women. And unmarried men trade more than married men. That’s what we learned from 2020 Vanguard data: Of female households holding two common types of retirement accounts on the investment platform, 4 percent made trades in March 2020, compared with 7.5 percent of male households.
Especially in times of market volatility like the ones we are living in since the start of the sanitary crisis, women trade less often but generate long-term higher returns. “Women have been trading at rates that are about half of that of men, which is good in that they’re not overreacting,” commented Jean Young, senior research associate at Vanguard.
